Ballet Folklorico Herencia Mexicana de Houston

Galveston Reads is proud to welcome Houston’s Ballet Folklorico Herencia Mexicana as we celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month and our 2021 Galveston Reads books, Where We Come From. Enjoy some of the traditional dances of Mexico courtesy of a remarkable local treasure. Tasty traditional Mexican pastries and other refreshments will be served!

Day of the Dead (Día de Muertos) Sugar Skulls

In honor of Day of the Dead, when the border between the spirit world and the physical world dissolves. Join Galveston’s crafty artist Annette Kinslow as we decorate our own personalized Day of the Dead plaster skulls! This craft is fairly detailed and designed for ages 18+. Refreshments will be served.

Galveston Reads Movie Night – Coco

We’re proud to once again pair up with Galveston’s own Kitchen Chick for another book themed cooking class. This year we welcome special guest chef, author, and sister to this year’s Galveston Reads author, Sylvia Cásares! This event is fairly detailed and designed for ages 18+. Spots are very limited for this class, so sign up fast!

2021 Galveston Reads Author Visit

The Rosenberg Library and Galveston Reads is proud to welcome acclaimed author, Oscar Cásares, to speak on his remarkable book, Where We Come From. Join us at 1:00 pm for his keynote speech, followed by a 15 minute Q and A, and 2:00 pm book signing. Refreshments will be served!

The Young Immigrant Story
Tuesday, November 23rd, 2:30 and 7:00 pm

There’s an immigration story present somewhere in the background of all families. The sheer determination and bravery of people forced to leave their homes for a brand new land is inspirational. We’ll share some of these experiences, talk about Henry Rosenberg’s life and learn about other research from the Galveston & Texas History Center.
